Taking a steroid preventer inhaler for asthma means you’re less likely to react to your asthma triggers like pollen, pollution, stress, and exercise. What corticosteroids are used for

High doses of corticosteroids impair the immune response and so live vaccines should be avoided (see also section 4.4). Coping with side effects

This might increase your risk of experiencing side effects. If you need to take medication for diabetes with corticosteroids, your blood glucose levels will usually need to be checked more regularly. Your dose of diabetes medication may then need to be adjusted. Your dose may need to be reduced slowly over a few weeks or months.

Tablets or liquids

Erythromycin and ketoconazole may inhibit the metabolism of some corticosteroids. If we do have a horse needing inhalers we always give the owners written instructions, the different inhalers usually need a different number of puffs, so it is easy to get confused. In allergic asthmatics, the airways are very reactive and become inflamed and narrow on exposure to certain allergen or irritant triggers.
